Santana over the Years...

So I have started reading the book "Marley and Me" and have been recalling all of our memories with our own Lab ... Santana.

Aaahhhh so cute when we first brought her home. Our Y2K puppy. We picked her up New Years eve 12/31/99. We picked her out special from the litter. We chose the name Santana in honor of one of Jim's favorite football players, Santana Dotson.
So adorable.....

Here is where the fun began...
See all of the shovels and concrete back there...
Oh yea... Jim spent the whole 1st day with her home building a dog run and installing a gate on our side yard there.
Here is the kicker... he puts her back there, closes the gate and what do ya know...she fits right thru the slats and is back out running thru the yard!!

Just look at that face...

Smaller than her large food bowl...

Hey ...what's that??...Flowers planted so nicely back there...not for long!!!

See... no more flowers...

Doesn't seem it here but she was a bit of a handful in puppy training school. She had me all over the place while all of the other owners had their dogs under control!! She was and still is in charge with me around!!

My grandma used to bring over old stuffed animals for her all of the time.
Here cute little Barney is about to be ripped to shreds!!!

Here is where I thought Jim would set her free...
We would come home everyday from work and find our new backyard, after building our house, with the queen palms chewed down to the nubs...
We spent a lot of time at Home Depot installing and re-installing rabbit fence to protect what we would have to constantly replant!!

There is one she chewed down...

Here is Santana with my brother's dog Bailey...

Look at that face...

After her crazy childhood she is very much loved by our kids and is excellent with them!!

Here she is today... 100lbs and so sweet now!
Santana turned 9 yrs old this past November though there have been times she has driven us crazy- we can't imagine life without her still!!

Geez! That book must have really gotten to ya!? At first, I thought... Oh My God.. they got another dog! If the Cardinals win the Super Bowl you have to get the kids a puppy to mark the event! (Don't worry - the chances of that happening are very slim!) GO STEELERS!

Look at that cute little face. I think we all had sweat shirts with holes in them from her when she was in her chew everything days. I do remember that day that Jimmy and Jim did all that measuring, planning, and work on the dog run to have her go right through the slats the moment she got shut back there. That was so funny. I have waited 35 years to see the Cardinals go to the Super Bowl and I'm loving every moment of that achievement. I never gave up hope that they would some day make all the nay sayers eat their words.
GO CARDINALS!!!!!
